UPLBedista

I think I am not the first one to coin this term, but if ever that I am the first one, then I would like to take credit for it. HAHA...

Anyway, I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management at UPLB.

Currently, I am taking up Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at San Beda College of Law.

I cannot help but compare these two Academic Institutions because they both excel academically.

UPLB was recently voted as the 2nd best University in the Philippines with UP Diliman taking the top spot.
On the other hand, The San Beda College of Law had the highest over-all passing rate in the 2011 BAR exams.

The purpose of this post is to compare and contrast these two academic institutions....

DIFFERENCES:

The difference between UPLB and San Beda are the following:
  • As to the land area:
    • UPLB is a lot bigger. You could just imagine, Mt. Makiling is included in the UPLB map!!! Besides, there are a lot of jeepneys roaming inside the campus for easy travel.
  • As to the freshman orientation
    • San Beda College of Law holds a grand Freshman orientation for 1st year law students complete with catered food and photo booth.
  • As to the class rituals
    • The classes in UPLB do not start with a prayer.
    • In San Beda, the students are required to stand-up for recitations.
  • As to the tuition fee
    • The Tuition Fee in San Beda is more expensive with about 1,900+ per unit.
  • As to the bloc sectioning
    • UPLB does not employ bloc sectioning. However, you will get to know your blockmates if you attend the block-meeting sessions held at the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA)
  • As to the uniforms
    • UPLB does not require their students to wear uniforms or wear their ID's. Students do not have a dress code.
SIMILARITIES:

  • As to the festivities:
    • UPLB has FebFair while San Beda has Frolics or Feast of Sto. NiƱo. Both has rides, street foods and henna tattoo booths
  • As to the political involvment:
    • Both academic institutions are somewhat the favorite spot of activists. UPLB obviously has active student activists. On the other hand, even though, San Beda does not have any 'hardcore' student activists, the location of the campus is just a stone-throw away from the Mendiola peace arch. The said arch is a favorite venue of rallyists expressing their grievances against the Government. In fact, several policemen and fire trucks are on stand-by every time a scheduled rally is held.
  • As to distinguised alumni
    • UPLB has a lot of great scientists, politicians, justices among others while San Beda has produced a lot of top notch lawyers, accountants and politicians.
